Nonlinear Narrative
I have been fascinated with history as long as I can remember. Who were the people that came before us? What motivated them? What made them happy, sad, angry? Were they that much different than you or me? If I lived in those times, would I have made the same choices they did? I decided to take a little adventure to Bannack this weekend to check out the ghost town there and ponder some of these thoughts.
I thought I knew what I wanted to focus on with this photo shoot. When I got there, however, I ended up being so fascinated with the windows and doors and reflections and passageways, that I decided to focus on those instead.
I like the metaphor of looking into the windows and doors into the past. Places like Bannack are little portals into what it was like living in a different era. It may have been simpler and contained less technology, for sure. However, I am convinced that humans in these other eras weren't so different from us after all. We have to be careful to not oversimplify and romanticize the past-they were motivated by the same things that motivate us today. Let's learn from history and be active participants now, but not repeat it.
